Adjustable dumbbells & weights

Compare usable weight, adjustment speed, dumbbell length and durability before you replace a fixed set.

The question that decides it: Does it feel like a fixed dumbbell, progress in useful jumps and survive realistic handling?

What actually separates them.

01 · Useful range

Buy for the loads you use weekly, not the largest number on the box.

02 · Length by setting

Some dumbbells stay long even when light; others shorten as plates are removed.

03 · Increment size

Five-pound jumps per hand may be too large for raises, curls and rehabilitation work.

04 · Drop policy

Read the written warranty. A convention drop demo is not a promise of coverage.

The deposit surface this entry described is gone from view: $100, $1,299.99, "not the full price", $299 and $50 each render zero times, surviving in raw HTML only. The FAQ still documents the deposits as policy ("$100 now, refundable any time. Same for the $50 cart deposit"), and Freak Athlete tells existing depositors to watch their email. 120-lb Adjustable Dumbbells

Not currently purchasable — first round sold out; when open, $100 deposit to reserve, full price per weight $1,099.99 (85 LB), $1,299.99 (105 LB), $1,499.99 (120 LB) · The first production round is sold out and nothing on this product can currently be bought. Weights are unchanged at 85, 105 and 120 LB.

Offered in 85, 105 and 120-lb versions, priced per weight at $1,099.99, $1,299.99 and $1,499.99 per pair respectively, each reserved with the same $100 refundable deposit; an optional cart runs $300. Cage-free shape, 5-lb increments and spin adjustment. Manufacturing has started and the first run is limited.

Why it matters: This is the clearest potential challenger to REP x PÉPIN for lifters who need a compact dumbbell above 90 lb — and it now has a real price and a reservation queue.

Watch for: Final length at lighter settings, stand design, warranty language and whether production units match the drop-test prototype. The end-of-2026 window is explicitly not guaranteed, and the "end of October" date for the next pre-order round is the brand’s own estimate rather than a commitment. The per-weight pricing trap this entry documented is moot while the round is closed but will return when it reopens, so it is recorded here for that moment: Freak Athlete publishes three pre-order SKUs in its structured data - DEP-ADB-085 at $1,099.99, DEP-ADB-105 at $1,299.99 and DEP-ADB-120 at $1,499.99 - while only the middle figure has rendered in the product page’s visible text and $1,499.99 has rendered nowhere. With a flat $100 deposit regardless of weight, a buyer reserving the 120 LB pair commits against a balance $200 above the figure the page showed them. When the next round opens, get the weight and the balance confirmed in writing before paying.

UNBell UNBell Hybrid Dumbbell–Kettlebell

UNBell

UNBell Hybrid Dumbbell–Kettlebell

Still not purchasable. UNBell's own site at unbell.com runs an interest registration rather than a sale — its banner reads "UNBELL PRE-ORDER INTEREST REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN" and the registration page states plainly "This is not a purchase. There's no commitment. Just early access." No price appears anywhere on the domain as of Sept 17, 2026.

Adjusts from 5 to 65 lb and can shift from balanced to intentionally offset loading using modular inserts and external handles.

Why it matters: It treats load distribution as an adjustable variable, not just total weight, which opens carries, rotational control and asymmetrical training.

Watch for: UNBell told registrants on Jan 28, 2026 that pre-orders would go live "in the next 60-90 days". That window expired in late April 2026, and roughly eight months on the site still offers registration only, with no pre-order path and no published price — so treat any timing UNBell gives as aspirational. The first run is stated as "Limited to 200-400 units total" and "US-only shipping for the initial release", with pre-orders "offered in the order people register", so registration order is likely to matter more than it usually would. Published adjustment range is 5-65 lbs.

M-Plate

Magnetic Microloading for REP x PÉPIN FAST Dumbbells

Prototype shown at HomeGymCon

Two magnetic plates are designed to create 2.5, 5 and 7.5-lb jumps for REP x PÉPIN FAST dumbbells. Custom colors are also planned.

Why it matters: REP already ships 2.5-lb micro-adjustment plates with the FAST Series dumbbells, giving 2.5 and 5-lb jumps against a 10-lb base increment, so the coarse-progression problem is partly solved in the box. What M-Plate's prototype adds on top of that is a 7.5-lb step and a magnetic attachment, which matters most to lifters who are actually progressing in small jumps on a dumbbell that otherwise moves 10 lb at a time.

Watch for: This entry has lost its only live source, which is now the first thing to know about it. HomeGymCon's vendors page — the entry's stored source, and the origin of the claim that M-Plate's microloading is compatible with the REP x PÉPIN FAST Series — was rebuilt by Oct 1, 2026 into a bare booth table with every vendor description removed, and M-Plate is also absent from HomeGymCon's new-product-releases page. So the compatibility claim no longer appears on any approved source. M-Plate's own catalogue was read in full on Oct 1 and contains no REP, PÉPIN or FAST product: all ten products fit NÜOBELL, Snode AD80 or BowFlex 552 only, and the brand's own search returns zero products for "REP", "FAST", "PEPIN" and "microloading". What is confirmed is that the approach is real and shipping for M-Plate's other lines — the product copy describes "custom-formed extensions that fit into the second plate of the dumbbell, creating a more stable magnetic connection" and contrasts that with "flat magnetic add-ons" — so the prototype shown is plausible, just unlaunched and now unsourced. For price expectations when and if a REP-compatible version appears, M-Plate's comparable products run $39.99 for two 1.25 lb plates and $79.99 for four on the NÜOBELL and BowFlex 552, with a 2.5 lb Snode AD80 set at $134.99 (sold out) and racks at $29.99. No 7.5 lb step exists anywhere in the catalogue. Still worth settling before buying, if it ships: what this offers over the 2.5 lb micro-plates REP already includes with the dumbbells, since REP's own product page publishes 2.5 and 5 lb increments as standard. M-Plate is a separate company from REP; the original blurb claimed compatibility with the REP x PÉPIN FAST Series, not a REP partnership. Retention during dynamic reps, cradle clearance, interference with weight selection and final pricing all remain unverified.

REP x Snode

AD85S Adjustable Dumbbells

Not listed on repfitness.com or snodesport.com as of 2026-08-19; Snode's US catalog carries only AD80-series models ($397.50-$1,344). The REP x Snode collab may use different retail branding when it lands.

Quick-change adjustable dumbbells expanding from 10 to 120 lb, with a cage-free, full-metal build and a selector reviewers found faster than the industry-standard Nuobells.

Why it matters: The cage-free shape and fast selector solve two common adjustable-dumbbell complaints at once: bulky per-rep handling and slow changes between sets.

Watch for: Reviewers flagged a steep price jump versus the source hardware — Snode's own AD85S sells for about €670, while this REP-branded 85-lb version launched at $1,099.99, roughly 64% more for the same weight. Confirm you are paying for a real difference, not just the badge.

PowerBlock

Pro 100 EXP Adjustable Dumbbells

$539.00 (40 lb pair) – $1,196.00 (100 lb pair) · Current lineup on PowerBlock's official store, all capacity variants listed in stock

Sold as a pair, adjustable from 5 lb up to 100 lb per hand at full expansion. Bought in four capacity tiers rather than all at once — 40 lb at $539.00, 60 lb at $758.00, 80 lb at $977.00 and 100 lb at $1,196.00 — so the weight can be expanded in stages later. Included micro weights give 2.5 to 5 lb increments. Knurled stainless and TPR rubber grips are offered at the same price. PowerBlock's wider adjustable line also lists the Elite USA 90 (stated US-made, to 90 lb per hand), the Pro 50, the Pro 32 and the Sport 24.

Why it matters: PowerBlock is the defining name in selector-block adjustable dumbbells and the index did not list the brand anywhere. Without it this category held only indie and collaboration entries, so a reader comparing adjustable dumbbells was missing the design most of the market is measured against.

Watch for: Availability outside the US is genuinely unresolved. PowerBlock's free shipping is stated as applying only to residential orders within the contiguous 48 United States, and while the store offers currency selection for Australia, Canada, the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain, it publishes no explicit European shipping policy. Also worth confirming independently how the block shape handles the longest settings, which is the standard trade-off for this design.

REP Fitness

REP x PÉPIN FAST Series Adjustable Dumbbell

From $899.99 (65-lb pair) to $1,499.99 (125-lb pair) · In stock as of Sept 16, 2026; the product page states it ships within 24-48 hours.

Sold as pairs in four sizes: 65 lb $899.99, 85 lb $1,099.99, 105 lb $1,299.99 and 125 lb $1,499.99. Weight changes in 10-lb increments via a magnetic pop-pin, and REP includes 2.5-lb micro-adjustment plates that bring the jumps down to 2.5 or 5 lb up to 125 lb. The page publishes a length of 18.3 inches and a 34 mm nickel-plated handle with what REP calls a volcano-style knurling pattern "that provides plenty of grip without being overly aggressive." Plates are described as "All steel, CNC-cut plates with a black powder coating," with UHMW liners and laser-etched markings. A separate Add-On Weight SKU is $200.00; an Adjustable Dumbbell Stand (+$299.99) and a Dumbbell Storage Cart (+$349.99) are offered as add-ons. Free shipping is stated, with an asterisk excluding Alaska, Hawaii, wholesale and commercial orders.

Why it matters: This is the heavy-adjustable-dumbbell benchmark the rest of the index is already written against — the Freak Athlete 120-lb entry names it by name, and the index has been carrying an M-Plate microloading accessory built for these dumbbells without carrying the dumbbells themselves. The 18.3-inch length is the number to compare: it is the constraint that decides whether a heavy adjustable is usable for pressing, not the top-end weight.

Watch for: REP publishes no warranty terms on this page — "warranty" appears only as a global footer link, with no product-specific coverage stated — which is worth weighing at $899.99 to $1,499.99. Note also that REP's own marketing prose contradicts its own SKUs: the Overview says the dumbbells are "offered in 85lb, 105lb, or 125lb pairs" and that "The basic pair ... spans 10 to 85lbs," while the live variant picker sells a 65-lb pair at $899.99. Treat the picker as authoritative and the prose as stale. The 10-lb base increment is coarse for a dumbbell of this price without the included micro-plates, so confirm the micro-plates are in the box for the size you buy.

Which way to go.

Choose heavy adjustables

Best when one compact pair must cover pressing, rows and lower-body work above 80 pounds.

Choose faster adjustables

Best for supersets and shared gyms where several people change loads frequently.

Keep some fixed pairs

Light, frequently used weights can be faster and more comfortable as fixed dumbbells.
